This recipe for baked beans comes from Margaret Phillips who is a wonderful cook and just so happens to be my sister-in-law. Her recipe for baked beans is the best I’ve ever had!
1 lb. ground sausage
1 onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
2 (16 oz.) cans baked beans
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/3 cup molasses
2 tbs Panola BBQ sauce
1 tsp dry mustard
2 tsp Panola Worcestershire sauce
1/3 cup ketchup
Black pepper to taste
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Lightly grease a medium size casserole.
Brown the sausage in a skillet, stirring to break into bite-sized pieces; remove from the skillet. Brown the onion and bell pepper in the meat drippings. Drain the meat, onion and pepper well. Stir together the beans, brown sugar, bbq sauce, molasses, and all remaining ingredients. Mix in the meat, onion, and bell pepper. Pour into the prepared casserole. Bake uncovered for about an hour or until the liquid is slightly thickened and the meat is tender.
